A mini survey by Kasese Guide indicates that most government aided primary schools in Kasese district have no enough but dirty pit-latrines.
The survey also indicate that other than staff in some schools sharing pit-latrines with learners, dunnies in most primary schools lack the minimum sanitation standards.
According to our reporter, besides failure to have clean and safe water for drinking, some primary schools lack tap water and learners do not know the importance of cleaning hands after any call of nature.
According to our reporter, the call for government intervention into the challenge dominated reports by the school leaders at Kiraho SDA, Katembo, Kamukumbi and Kisabu primary schools among many schools that Lt. Joe Walunsimbi, the Kasese Resident District Commissioner visited during his official tour of government aided institutions across the district.
According to Mr. George Kiiza, the head teacher for Kisabu primary school in Kitholhu Sub County, the pit-latrine stances at his school do not match the enrolment, thus, forcing some impatient learners out of school and some inconveniencing the families neighboring the institution. Mr. George speaking……….
During his tour, Lt. Walunsimbi called for concern and intervention by the parents and local community he said should not always sit back to wait for government but advocate for quicker and temporary solutions. END
