Moroto district local government is struggling to operationalize the Nakiloro cross-border cattle market as the two sub-counties of Rupa and Katikekile clash over ownership.
The 100 million shillings facility at the border between the sub-counties of Rupa and Katikekile, was developed under the Pastoral Livelihood Resilience Programme to boost the trade between the Karamojong in Uganda and the Turkana of Kenya. Mr. Samuel Lokong, the Moroto District principal Assistant Secretary said that the market was a peace dividend that was established after realizing that the conflicting communities of Turkana of Kenya and the Karamojong in Uganda had agreed to peacefully coexist.
