The Kasese district environmental officer, Mr. Augustine Kooli has called for more consciousness among sand miners, most of whom he says are not bothered much about the effects of their activities to the environment.
Mr. Kooli goes on to warn sand miners against tempering with river banks but rather take advantage of the fee heaped sand for their commercial use.
