The Catholic Church in Mityana has conducted a pilgrimage in honor of the martyrdom of Matia Mulumba ahead of the June 3 Martyrs’ day celebrations at Namugongo.
While presiding over holy Mass at Butega Parish in Kiyinda-Mityana Diocese yesterday, Bishop of Kiyinda-Mityana Dr. Joseph Anthony Zziwa commended the pilgrims for attending the thanksgiving prayers saying that the church started pilgrimage to places of origin for the martyrs to enable believers participate in the activities even without reaching Namugongo.
He praised Matia Mulumba for the faith and determination despite the threats and torture he went through till he died and asked the Christians to emulate him to change their lives. Bishop Zziwa speaking……
The Minister of lands, Judith Nabakooba commended the foot pilgrims for exhibiting the determination, courage, adding that if the people learnt from the Martyrs, many of the challenges and troubles could be solved easily.
According to Nabakooba, she attended the prayer day to renew her faith and to pick lessons from the martyr and to share from God’s blessings in the place. Hon. Nabakooba speaking……..
In his homily, Vicar General Monsignor Lawrence Mukasa asked the pilgrims to emulate the conduct and hard work exhibited by Matia Mulumba in order to earn rewards from both the people and God. END
