Mr. Tom Baluku, the Head teacher Kilembe secondary school in Kasese district, has said the new lower secondary education curriculum which is competent based will be able to address unemployment challenges, if implemented well by schools.
He said unlike the old curriculum where the emphasis was mainly put on making the students pass with distinctions, the new curriculum stresses the skilling of learners.
He made the remarks on Friday during the Parents Teachers Association-PTA meeting held at the school multipurpose hall.
Mr. Tom said students in senior one are made to do several vocations, including, tailoring, carpentry, Agriculture, hair dressing and computer science among others.
In senior two they are given the liberty to specialize in one vocation of their interest, they do DIT exams in senior three and awarded with level one certificate upon passing those, meaning they can upgrade up to university after senior four, emphasizing that the assessment by ministry of Education and sports about the new curriculum credited the school for the good performance.
