Chief Magistrate’s Court at Kasese has released Master keys’ expert, Mr. Fred Mandevu on a cash bail of two million shillings.
Court also ruled for a non-cash payment of nine million shillings for each of the two sureties for Mr. Mandevu. Mr. Cosmas Kule and Mr. Enosi Muhindo, Mr. Mandevu’s co-accused however were taken back to government prison after failing to meet the bail conditions.
Court Presided over by Grade one magistrate, His Worship Allan Nyakana heard that on 9th January 2024 while in Kyalhumba town council in Kasese district, Mr. Enos Muhindo, a 34 year old local private security officer, Mr. Cosmas Kule, a Boda-boda rider and Mr. Fred Mandevu, a key cutter reportedly broke into a coffee store belonging to Bukonzo Joint Cooperative Union and stole nine sacks of purified coffee awaiting export to Japan.
Speaking to our Reporter shortly after court, Mr. Geoffrey Michele, the prosecution council said they were not worried with decision by court because the defendants have the right to court bail. Mr. Michele speaking….
Mr. Robert Baluku, the Managing Director for Bukonzo Joint Cooperative Union had earlier told our reporter that having been tipped by their storekeeper over theft suspicions as he turned up for duty that fateful day, their subsequent follow up that morning led them to a coffee processing machine store belonging to one Mr. Kabarungi where the said stolen sacks of coffee were discovered. By press time, Mr. Mandevu was struggling to get the required court bail of two million shillings. Court was later adjourned for May 22nd 2024. END.
