A man visiting an inmate at Luzira Maximum Prison has been arrested for masquerading as a Police officer.
Don Miles Mugerwa, a driver and resident of Nkumba was arrested together with Twaha Wamala a technician at Murchison Bay prison in Luzira as they visited.
He was dressed in a police uniform resembling one donned by Counter Terrorism Police with his name tag similar to those donned on the counter terrorism police uniform.
They said they were visiting a friend and an inmate, Brian Ssempijja, deputy police spokesperson, Claire Nabakka said yesterday.
She explained that whereas Mugerwa had managed to beat security at the entrance of Luzira, officers got curious after realizing that the warrant card indicated that he was an Assistant Superintendent of Police, the pips didn’t indicate the same.
Nabakka noted the duo was later arrested and detained at Jinja Road Police Station from where they will be arraigned in courts of law on charges of impersonation contrary to section 17 of the Anti-Corruption Act 2009. END.
