Kenneth Jogo Biryabarema, a National Resistance Movement (NRM) primary contender for the Rubanda East County parliamentary seat, was moved to tears during his campaign launch after voters surprised him with financial contributions.
The emotional scene unfolded yesterday, at Rwere Primary School playground in Bubaare Sub-county, Rubanda District, when attendees handed Jogo the district’s first LC5 Chairperson a portion of money they claimed to have received from his opponent, incumbent MP and State Minister for Finance (General Duties), Henry Ariganyira Musasizi.
Voters alleged Musasizi had given them100,000 thousand shillings each to discourage support for Jogo.
In defiance, a group led by Evelyn Twinobusigye of Nyamiyaga Parish split the funds, donating half to Jogo’s campaign.
Twinobusigye accused Musasizi of belittling voters and dismissing Jogo’s leadership, claiming the minister had labeled Jogo’s supporters as “idlers” and the candidate as financially weak. Their act, she said, proved “even the poor can lead Uganda.”
Overwhelmed, Jogo thanked the crowd, calling their gesture a “sign of hope” and a belief in true servant leadership. END
