Hon. Dr. Crispus Kiyonga, a famous farmer in Western region based in Kasese district has asked the local community members to embrace inter-cropping for food security and improved household incomes.
Intercropping is the practice of growing two or more crops in proximity mainly to produce a greater yield on a given piece of land by making use of resources that would otherwise not be utilized by a single crop
Whereas Dr. Kiyonga, the former Defense Minister asked the local council one Chairpersons in Ihandiro Sub County to promote coffee growing, he was concerned about the food insecurity that must be neutralized by growing food crops alongside cash crops, as well as rearing of domestic animals and birds for improved living conditions. During the same meeting with local leaders in Ihandiro subcounty, Dr. Kiyonga listed the resolutions by the gathering, among them include, better methods of farming, coffee harvesting and storing, as well as embracing communal work to back government efforts for development.
