The police in Lira City are holding a woman accused of torturing her five-year-old stepdaughter.
The suspect has been identified as Fiona Namagembe, 20, a resident of Ereda Samba village in Lira East Division Lira City.
Police say that the Sunday evening arrest followed a report from a concerned human rights activist in Lira City who had been informed that the woman over the weekend brutally battered the five-year-old girl identified as Juliet Akoli.

Earlier, Mr. Patrick Jimmy Okema, the Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson said yesterday that reports obtained indicate that the suspect severely beat up Akoli over a yet to be disclosed reason and later took her to Life Line Clinic in Lira City for medical attention. END
