Most learners have shunned classes at Kigoro primary school in Rukoki Sub County in Kasese district following last week’s mudslides that hit Kasika trading center and killed 16 people, four of whom were from the school that is about 50 kilometers away.
School authorities’ say that only a few learners have since shown up for classes as both pupils and their parents have fearful of fresh mudslides.
Mr. Zaverio Mugisa, the Deputy Head teacher of Kigoro Primary school said yesterday that only 269 out of the 589 who were present before the deadly incident last week, have since returned for studies.
Mr. Mugisa who said teachers resumed classes by providing psychological support, especially for learners in lower classes, asked local leaders to support the school in mobilizing children to return to school. Mr. Mugisa speaking……

Wilfred Bwambale, a primary four pupil who claimed to have told lost all his items including scholastic items after their family house was hit by the mudslides, called for support to enable him return to school. Mr. Joseph Wandera from SOS children village, says that the organization is carrying out a rapid assessment to see how they can mobilize resources to help the affected children. END
