Leaders from Busongora County North in Kasese district have called for thorough investigations into the coordinated attacks targeting security installation by armed attacks whose majority of the suspected perpetuators hail from the constituency.

During a security meeting held at Hima town council headquarters yesterday, SP Alex Muhumuza, the Rwenzori East Deputy Regional Police Commander, confirmed that armed thugs, including women from a yet to be identified group, attacked Kasese police barracks and Rugendabara police Post in the wee hours on Saturday but later repulsed by security agencies that eliminated 19 and arrested 40. The seemingly disappointed Lt. Joe Walunsimbi, the Kasese Resident District Commissioner, wondered why in this developing world, some people still think that catapults and witchcraft can cause firearm malfunction as perceived by the attackers. Lt. Walunsimbi speaking….

Mr. Hadson Musale, the sub-county Chairperson for Buhuhira, who supported the proposed subcounty based security sensitization community meetings, revealed that at least four people from his subcounty are part of the 19 suspects who were killed and other arrested during the attack. His counterpart for Rugendabara-Kikongo town council in Kitswamba subcounty, Mr. Daniel Kambale, requested that investigations cover reasons why Busongora County North registers the highest number of suspects whenever deadly incidents befall Kasese district; the recent incident reportedly involving witchcraft masterminded by a suspected coordinator.

The meeting chairman who doubles as the State Minister for ICT and National Guidance, Hon. Godfrey Kabbyanga, assured the masses that security was on full alert, asking those involved to use government protocols to express their concerns than acting in a manner that risks their lives and threaten development. He also revealed government plans to deal with whoever connects the weekend attacks to the establishment of the Rwenzururu Kingdom. END
