By Editorial,
Late opening of land is considered one of the factors affecting crop yields in Kitgum district.
According to the Uganda Meteorological Authority, Uganda experiences two major rainfall seasons; March –April-May as the first rainy season, and September-October-November-December as the second season.
This implies that farmers countrywide should now have their land ready to sow seeds.
However, Walter Alii, the Executive Director of King of Kings Multi-investment and Consultancy Farm Limited in Kitgum district estimates that only about 15-20 percent of farmers in Kitgum district have prepared their land for the first season planting.
King of Kings Multi Investment and Consultancy Farm primarily deals in cassava growing, processing, and packaging and is dealing with more than 2,000 farmers in Kitgum and Lamwo districts.
He claimed that many farmers spend more time in merrymaking than preparing their land for sowing seeds as soon as the rain falls.
Mr.Walter speaking…
Walter pledged that this year, King of Kings Multi-investment and consultancy farm will sensitize the farmers on the need for early land preparation, saying it determines their crop yields. END.
