Over 300 local residents in Butsumba-Kogere cell in Nyamwamba Division in Kasese Municipality have asked Kibazi Abeyiterine Farmers’ Association to allow sub-leases on the land as means to guarantee ownership in the area.
Addressing an emergency meeting over the matter yesterday, Mr. Erisa Bithahwa, the area local council one chairman said the ongoing double sale of land and corruption by some of the association board members, were indications of future conflicts that can only be cleared by individual land sub-leases. Mr. Daniel Bwambale, Mr. Sajoni Thembo and Mr. Fahad Zemezisa, are among the affected local farmers who live under fear now that they were being threatened and their move for sub-leases being frustrated by some selfish members of the association leaders.

Mr. Pimako Kasereka, an association member who doubles as the local council three chairperson for Nyamwamba Division, said whereas the land title that covers nine people has not been contested, sub-leases were key legal interventions to sort out any contradictions and guarantee land ownership.
