The Presidency Minister, Milly Babirye Babalanda, and the State Minister for Lands, Sam Mayanja, have accused Resident District Commissioners and security organs, particularly the police and army, of colluding and shielding land grabbers instead of aiding ordinary citizens.
According to Babalanda, there is a public outcry alleging the direct involvement of RDCs and some police officers in land grabbing.
Speaking during the Buganda Regional Meeting on the Progress of Implementing the February 28th, 2022 Presidential Directive on Land Evictions yesterday, Babalanda revealed that she had received numerous pleas calling for her intervention from aggrieved citizens.
The meeting drew representatives from the Uganda Police Force, Resident District Commissioners (RDCs) from Buganda Region, Inspectorate of Government, office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and Attorney General’s Chambers among other key stakeholders.
Babalanda called for an assessment of the progress of the directive and sought accountability for its implementation Ms. babalanda speaking…
In his directive, president Museveni emphasized that no evictions should occur in a district without the District Security Committee, chaired by RDCs, directly consulting the Minister of Lands.
He vowed to take action against the committee members should they fail to heed to his directive with the exclusion of the UPDF representative due to their limited involvement. END.
