Police in Kisoro district is hunting for a 28-year-old man who hacked to death his parents, wife and sister in-law last night.

The suspect, whom neighbors claim has a history of mental derangement, has been identified as Gerald Ndikumukiza, a resident of Kageyo village, Busengo Parish in Kisoro district.
According to Police, Ndikumukiza attacked the four who resided together in a house located in the same village and first, cut his 26-year-old wife Mariserina Mujawimana before cutting his 20-year-old brother’s wife identified as Joan Nyiramahoro. He then reportedly continued and hacked his 80-year-old father Deogratious Sebutama, and then finished off his 75-year-old mother Bonconsira Nyiraguhirwa after which he took off into hiding.
Edward Irakiza, the suspect’s 8-year-old son was also injured in the attack. Irakiza said that the gruesome incident happened at around 10:30 p.m. when his father started cutting Mujawimana the wife, and when the parents tried to intervene, they were also cut to death.
Irakiza said that when he saw his father killing his grandparents, he tried to run away but his father threw at him, a sharp machete which injured his left hand.
Robert Hashakimana, a member of the family, said that Edward came to them running and told them that his father who had just returned from Kyazanga – Masaka had cut down his parents. On reaching the scene, he found 4 bodies lying in a pool of blood.
The suspect reportedly left a letter reading “Icyo mwashakaga Mwakibonye”, a Kifumbira statement meaning that “what you wanted, you have seen.
The Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson Elly Maate confirms the incident saying the motive of the killing is not known although the suspect has mental illness history. By press time, the four bodies were still at the scene pending collection to be taken for post-mortem as inquiries into the matter and the hunt for the suspect commenced. Elly Maate speaking…….
