    By Editorial,

Mr. Adson Atuhaire, the Kiruhura District local council five Vice Chairperson, has resigned his position amid allegations of rape.

Hon. Atuhaire, who represents Kitura Sub-County in the district council, decided to step aside to facilitate ongoing investigations.

He communicated the decision in a September 20th, 2023 letter addressed to the LC V Chairperson, Mr. Dan Mukago after his arrest last week for allegedly raping a student of Bishop Stuart University in Mbarara.

Police Spokesperson, Fred Enanga told journalists on Monday this week that Mr. Atuhaire, the suspect exchanged contacts with his victim on September 8th, 2023, in Rwentondo, Kakoba ward, Mbarara City, after she provided them with directions to the Golden Leaf Bar.

According to Enanga, the suspect later picked up his victim from her hostel at Kakoba Kyapatoni cell and purchased groceries and snacks, but on the way back, he allegedly raped her.

Mr. Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi Region Police Spokesperson, said Atuhaire is out on police bond under strict instructions not to interfere with the ongoing investigations. END
