Kenya’s President William Ruto says he will withdraw a finance bill containing controversial tax hikes after deadly protests which saw parliament set ablaze yesterday.
In an address to the nation, President Ruto said it was clear that Kenyans “want nothing” to do with the bill, adding that he will not sign the bill into law.
Meanwhile, Religious leaders in Kenya have blamed the violent demonstrations that rocked the country yesterday on Members of Parliament.
Addressing the media in Nakuru earlier today, the clerics led by Bishop Abraham Gitu, the coordinator of the High Council of Bishops, emphasized the importance of upholding independence of the legislature as stated in the constitution, as well as urging the young people not to express their anger by destroying property.
