Kenya’s president, William Samoei Ruto has declared a period of national mourning and ordered a State Funeral with full military honors for the late former Prime Minister and opposition leader, Raila Amolo Odinga.

In a presidential proclamation issued at State House, Nairobi today, President Ruto directed that the national flag be flown at half-mast across all public buildings, military installations, and Kenyan missions abroad “from today until sunset on the day of his interment.”
He also ordered that top government officials, including the President, Deputy President, Prime Cabinet Secretary, Chief Justice, and Cabinet Secretaries, “shall not fly the national flag on their official motor vehicles from today until sunset on the day Mr. Raila’s interment who is said to have collapsed during a morning walk and taken to Devamatha Hospital, which said he had suffered a cardiac arrest.
Meanwhile, at least 16 people have died after a huge fire broke out at a garment factory in Bangladesh, with officials warning that the toll could rise. Sixteen bodies have been recovered and would be handed to families after DNA testing, as they have been burnt beyond recognition, the fire service said. May the souls of the deceased rest in peace.
