The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Samuel Kazimba Mugalu, has expressed deep concerns over the widening gap between the rich and the poor, warning that the unchecked accumulation of wealth by a few while many continue to struggle could fuel anger and division in society.
Speaking to congregants at St Luke Church in Butabika, the archbishop highlighted the urgency of addressing these disparities, noting that they not only create resentment but also fracture communities.
The Archbishop called on the church to play a central role in bridging these divides, emphasizing that compassion and care for the marginalized should be at the core of its mission.
Mr. Paul Mugambe, Mayor of Nakawa, echoed the Archbishop’s sentiments, noting that corruption has become a pervasive issue that stifles progress in communities before proposing the need to confront corruption head-on if peace and harmony are to be achieved.
The Archbishop later visited Butabika Hospital, where he addressed the growing problem of drug abuse among the youth. END
