Kasese District is gradually losing its forest cover to uncontrolled human activities such as tree cutting for charcoal, timber and agriculture, the district environmental officer Augustine Koli has warned.
According to Koli, most of the forest cover in Nyabirongo hills, Muhokya, Kyondo, Kyarumba and Kihungu hills have been reduced to bare hills.
He was presenting his sector report to the district budget conference yesterday where noted that the district has a forest cover of 78 hectares but all of them are being degraded due to increasing human activities.
Koli warned that if people don’t embrace conservation of nature, they will continue to suffer the effects of climate change such as prolonged drought, floods and landslides. Augustine Koli on forest cover……
As part of the measures to stop tree cutting for charcoal and firewood, Koli revealed new innovations in renewable energy that are environmental friendly.
