Police in Bwera are holding the executive members for Bukonzo County East Mechanics Emyooga Savings and Credit for alleged loss of about twenty million shillings reportedly intended to benefit nine groups in the constituency.
According to our reporter, Mr. Chrispus Masereka, the treasurer, Mr. Charles Kugaba the chairperson, Mr. Jacob Buhaka the vice chairperson, and Mr. Philemon Kahihi, the Sacco secretary, all signatories of the Sacco bank account, are in police cells.
Whereas police is yet to comment, Mr. Wilson Ngene, the Coordinator for Emyooga in Rwenzori sub-region region, told our reporter that his office will not go by the unfortunate reports that when Mr. Chrispus Masereka, the Sacco treasurer was from withdrawing the funds, he was conned. While at Bwera Division Police headquarters, Mr. Charles Masereka, the Sacco treasurer, rubbished reports that he exchanged the money for fake British pounds but that the bag that was containing the money was grabbed from him by suspected robbers near Stanbic bank-Kasese branch. Later, Mr. Ngene asked the Sacco Executive members to secure their freedom by refunding the money. END
