Kasese District leaders have massively supported the proposed law against counterfeiting in goods and services in Uganda.
Mr. Fred Mwema, the chairperson Anti counterfeit Uganda had described Kasese district as a hot spot in counterfeiting goods and services, leading among all cross boarders in Uganda.
He said Kasese being a porous border it gives chances to people to deal in counterfeiting because it’s also a cross boarder crime.
Mwema made the remarks yesterday during a half day stakeholders meeting on counterfeiting goods and services held at the Kasese Multipurpose hall in Kasese town. Mr. Mwema speaking….
He said the Anti-counterfeit goods and services bill 2023 was drafted by the Anti-counterfeit Net-work Africa, a civil society organization in Uganda, whose aim is to ban, branding, Marketing, selling, Manufacturing and advertising goods and services that are allegedly illegal to the consumers in Uganda.
The Bill was later tabled in Parliament by Hon. Asuman Basalirwa, the Bugiri MP, as a Private Members Motion.
Kasese District Chairperson Mr.Erifaz Muhindi, said there has been a challenge of aflotoxins caused by poor feeding practices, adding that the involvement of the local leadership will address some of the challenges related to counterfeit in Kasese. Mr. Muhindi speaking….
Lt. Maate Magwara, the Kasese Deputy RDC in charge of Bukonzo County, called for collaborated efforts among the members of Parliament in Kasese to support the bill, so that the people are protected from using goods that are not recommended. END.
