The Kasese district disaster and rescue management committee has discovered reported ghost houses and plots of land allegedly registered by some internally displaced people in Camps in Kasese district as some of the property destroyed by the recent floods.
In interview with our reporter yesterday, the Principal Assistant Secretary in the office of Chief administrative officer, Mrs. Alice Bwambale said during the verification exercise that started in Kanyangeya in Kasese Municipality this week, they discovered that whereas claims about the destructed property by most flood victims were genuine, some were based on lies for compensation over what they did not own before the disaster struck.
Alice who said that the exercise was to cover all the camps also said that some tenants registered as property owners as some landlords whose houses were intact had registered as house people. Mrs. Alice speaks1……
She used the same opportunity to ask the disaster displaced people to live with relatives in safer areas than keeping in camps which she said could also be another source of diseases like COVID-19, cholera and Hepatitis B among others. Mrs. Alice speaking2……

In his address yesterday,the Kasese Deputy RDC, Mr. Joshua Masereka described as better decision to get back home by some people in internally displaced camps but with relatively safer areas than in living camps now that the food support stores were emptying up. END.
