Christians in the Uganda’s Kasese Diocese have been urged to welcome the Holy Spirit in their decision making as local church gatherings convene for consultation about the synod.

The two-year process of the 16th Ordinary Assembly of the Synod of Bishops which shall be celebrated in October 2023, was officially opened in Rome, 9-10th October 2021 by Pope Francis under the theme “For a Synodal Church of Communion, Participation and Mission.”

Facilitating as the Diocese of Kasese introduced the Pope’s intention on synodality to priests, Religious and lay faithful, Fr. Lazarus Luyinda the Rector Ggaba National Major Seminary asked Christians to present issues based on the guidance of the Holy Spirit basically to build the church of God.

Fr. Luyinda, a holder of Doctorate degree in Biblical Theology, also reminded the Christians to invite unity, love, listening, courage and patience and come up with concrete recommendations that will protect the Catholic Church for life.

He warned against playing the blame game and urged that the Synod be marked by the spirit of collaboration and respect of one another in view of promoting the good of the Church.

In his speech, the Ordinary of the Diocese of Kasese, Rt. Rev. Francis Aquirinus Kibira described the day as special as the diocese uncovers the Pope’s intention to synodality ahead of Bishops’ synod scheduled for October 2023.

He announced that the Pastoral Commission would meet next week to deliberate on how to develop the Synod seeds that has already been planted in parishes for purposes of getting rightful proposes to the Bishops’ Synod next year.

At the same workshop at St. John Paul II Memorial grounds near the Bishop’s residence, the Prelate attributed the firm stand and development of the Catholic Church to unity and proper approaches to Church issues.
