Mr. Fidelis Akankwasa, the Kabale Municipality Commercial Officer has been arrested for allegedly obtaining money by false pretense and issuing a bouncing cheque.
Mr. Leo Mbabazi a businessman and a resident of Kigongi B village, Central division, Kabale municipality filed a complaint at Kabale police station on March 13, 2023, accusing Akankwasa of giving him a bouncing cheque.
It is alleged that Akankwasa sold his land to Mr. Mbabazi, located in Kakoba, Mbarara City in December 2022 at 550 million Shillings.
ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson says at that time Mbabazi paid Akankwasa 100 million Shillings but the suspect later in January 2023 sold the same land to another person.
Mr. Mbabazi demanded that Akankwasa refund his money but paid 50.2 million Shillings in cash and a cheque of 49 million Shillings, which bounced. ASP Maate speaking…….
Mr. Akankwasa has been in hiding since February 2023 when Local Government Minister Raphael Magyezi issued an arrest warrant against him for messing up the relocation of vendors to the new Kabale Central Market. END
