Journalists in Rwenzori Region have called for easy access to information and freedom from intimidation and Harassment.
They remind Government of the need to respect their commitment to press freedom and reflection among media professionals about issues of press freedom and professional ethics.
Facilitating at a half day Media practioners training on promotion and protection of press freedom, organized by Umbrella for Journalists in Kasese-UJK held at Shiloh Gardens in Kasese town this afternoon, Mr.Misairi Thembo Kahungu decried about threats against journalists and their work in the Rwenzori region.
Mr. Kahungu says Journalists upcountry despite having their constitutional mandate of a right to access of information in article 29 in the 1995 constitution of Uganda, however Journalists continue to face obstruction in their work.
He calls for collaborated effort to fight for press freedom in Rwenzori Region through capacity building among stakeholders.
Ms.Jill Kyatuhirwe, head of department Civic space-USAID says issues of standardization and capacity building is being implemented by Freedom house in a three year project tittled “Rights and Justice Activity”.Ms.Jill on Journalists rights……
