The Ministry of Education and Sports has called off a meeting between Education and Sports minister Janet Museveni and Members of Parliament.
The meeting, which was set for today, at the Kololo independence grounds had been called by the First Lady to discuss the reopening of schools.
However, in a notice titled Postponement by the ministry of education, the ministry said the meeting would be held later.
The ministry indicated that a new date for the meeting would be communicated.
The meeting between the First Lady and MPs had faced objection by MPs from the Opposition.
Yesterday during a plenary sitting, Kira municipality MP Ssemujju Nganda moved a motion imploring Parliament to allow such a meeting outside Parliament, saying it would set a bad precedent.
Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah had earlier pleaded with the MPs to test for Covid-19 and attend the meeting, saying it is essential for the education sector.
Last week, Mrs. Museveni wrote to Parliament asking MPs to test for Covid-19 ahead of the special meeting with them.
The Government has since indicated that all schools would reopen in January 2021.END.
