The State House Anti-Corruption has arrested Ivan Katongole, the Acting Director Physical Planning at Kampala Capital City Authority-KCCA over the demolition of St. Peter’s Church, Ndeeba.

Mariam Natasha, the Spokesperson of the Unit, says Katongole was picked up to help investigations into the demolition of the church in the wee hours of Monday morning.

Katongole’s trouble stems from a July 30th letter he issued to Ephraim Enterprises Ltd authorizing the demolition of the structure on plot 39 Block 7 Ndeeba Lubaga Division.

In the letter, Katongole detailed the condition for the demolition including that it should be carried out strictly during the weekend and off peak hours to avoid interruptions of traffic and other businesses within in the vicinity of the site.

The arrest of Katongole brings to 12, the number of people arrested in connection to the demolition of the church.  In a statement issued on Monday afternoon, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, said three police commanders are in custody for alleged failure to provide security for the church property and have since been charged with neglect of duty.

They are David Epedu, the Katwe Divisional Police Commander, Mugira Yeko Kato, the Officer in Charge of Ndeeba Police Station and Isabirye Kaloli, the Kampala Metropolitan South Region Field Force Unit-FFU Commander.  ENDS .
