Ms Evelyn Kiryaghe Mugume, the Kasese Municipal Environmental Officer, has called for selective logging and sustainable forest management which she says balances human needs for resources with environmental conservation.
During the closure of a two-days training on environmental conservation organized by Girls for Climate Action held at Kasese Resort in Kasese municipality yesterday, Ms Evelyn who emphasized the need to protect swamps as well, said discriminative cutting of trees ensures long-term forest health, preserves biodiversity, and mitigates the negative impacts associated with indiscriminate clear-cutting that does little to neutralize exhaust gases.
