A section of Parents and guardians in Maliba town council Kasese district, have attributed the high rate of teenage pregnancy and early marriages to unregulated Night Disco’s.
This was raised today in a debate competition between students and Parents of Maliba Secondary school held under the Theme: “Is Culture to be blamed for the high rate of child marriage”.
Ms. Justine Biira and Yayeri Kabugho acknowledged that students in the area seem to concentrate on studies during day time but when it comes to night they attend Night Discos which they allege puts their lives to danger of teenage pregnancies, adaptation to western culture and contracting diseases, including HIV-AIDS among others. They said that most young girl’s engage in acts of moral decadence after their parents fail to provide them with essential needs, especially sanitary pads, clothes and scholastic materials.
Hon. Jedida Kyakimwa, the secretary Production and Marketing for Maliba sub-county, said council previously passed a by-law regulating night discos, which she said has ranked them from 1st Position in teenage pregnancy to 4th in Kasese district. Hon. Jedida speaking….
However, Ms.Jackline Acong, a trainer with Gender in Justice Livelihood health Uganda, had earlier said Maliba and Munkunyu sub-counties were leading in young mothers in Kasese district. END.
