Mr. John Ndaleghana, the Local Council three Vice chairperson for Ihandiro Sub-County in Kasese District has urged local leaders to encourage tree planting, as a tactic to fight household poverty and conserve environment.
He observed that while the Government was engaged in several programs of eradicating poverty, more effort was needed in promoting tree planting.
Speaking at an inception meeting between the local leadership and Karambi Group of People with Disabilities this afternoon held at Ihandiro Council hall, where the organization is implementing a three year tree planting project, Ndaleghana revealed that Sixty thousand indigenous trees will be planted among five hundred households, including People living with disabilities.
The project will be implemented in five villages including, Kikyo, Kihoko, Ihango, Buhathiro and Bubothyo.
Ndaleghena, urged the local Community to own the project aimed at mitigating climate change to guarantee food security.

Mr.Godfrey Bwambale, the Programs Director said the selection criteria of Indigenous tree species will involve local community participation.
Godfrey said the organization will also construct five hundred energy saving stoves to five hundred beneficiaries to discourage them from cutting trees.
