By Augustine Mumbere,
Locals living on disputed pieces of Land across Kasese district stormed the office of the Resident District Commissioner, protesting government’s alleged delays to resolve their land conflicts.
The affected cultivators were led by their chairperson, Ms Grace Biira who said their decision to camp at the office of the RDC, was to remind the President of his delayed interventions, largely caused by those she called middle men in government. Ms Biira speaking………
Ms. Mary Sikahwa and Mr. Martin Ofono, were some of the affected local residents who blame the delays to corrupt government leaders and their MPs who only show concerns during political campaigns.
Ms Sikahwa and Mr. Ofono speaking……
Lt. Joe Walunsimbi, the Kasese RDC who sounded pissed off by those alleging he was biased, called for calm among the affected cultivators now that the matter is being handled by the State Minister for lands, Hon. Sam Mayanja. Lt. Walunsimbi speaking……
The delegations of the affected people are mainly from Nkoko, Ibuga and Kisanga villages of Kitswamba sub-county, Kabukero in Karusandara and Rwehingo village in Nyakiyumbu sub-county. END

I think this should be a clear indicator that the people of kasese are Peaceful despite being labeled as rioters by some people.
If this peace can be used by the people to ask for the long controversial land among the cultivators and cattle keepers, why can’t the government swing in and peacefully reconcile these people before blood is shed,I argue the district leader ship to rally behind the residents for lasting solution.
