There has been mixed reactions related the statements made by the Member of Parliament representing Busongora north constituency, Hon. Sowedi Kitanywa that he supports the proposal for the Kasese district subdivision into smaller administrative units, with of his electorates interviewed calling it a move that is long overdue.
Officiating at the Kasese district international women`s day celebrations, Hon. Peace Mutuzo faulted Kasese people and leader for slow pace of development as a result of the large district whose funding and planning for as a single unit has remained a big challenge.
Her statements forced Hon. Sowedi Kitanywa to tell the press that he was behind the subdivision move over his electorates who have kept him on pressure over the matter.
Whereas Mr. Edwin Magode of Mubuku says the plan is overdue to improve services, Mr. Jafari Kigutiha who called for thorough consultation over the matter however described the plan as diversionary, asking Hon. Sowedi and his peers to table motions that would see Kilembe mines, Kccl and Katwe salt lake revamped than subdividing the district. Mr. Kigutiha speaking……
To Mr. Gideon Mbahimba of Maliba, time was ripe for local leaders and the community to work against rigidity by supporting the move which to him, would rapidly facilitate service delivery in the fields of health, education and job acquisitions. Mr. Gideon speaking………
Hon. Israel Masereka, the Kasese Municipal councilor representing Kamaiba Ward said the split would partly neutralize the cold war between Bukonzo and Busongora counties.
He also describes it as a mere joke for anybody to think that the leaders were ably serving the local community in this wider Kasese district whose topography among others, makes its costly and demands much from service providers.

In her speech, the Hon. Mutuuzo, the State Minister for Gender, labour and social development surprised Kasese when she said the population in her Bunyangabo district was smaller than that in Busongora north constituency alone. END
