Hon. Ferigo Kambale, the Kasese Municipal Member of Parliament has written to the Inspector General of Police seeking for clearance and security during the peaceful demonstration against a government plan to withdraw government paid medical staff from Kilembe Mines Hospital in Kasese district.
In a community meeting on Tuesday this week held at Bulembia Division headquarters in Kasese Municipality, Hon. Ferigo vowed to lead a peaceful demonstration scheduled for December 1st 2023, with the demonstrators walking from Kilembe Mines Hospital to Kasese main roundabout and finally, gather at Mayor’s gardens in Kasese Municipality.
According to a letter addressed to IGP dated 22nd .Nov.2023, signed by Mr. Ferigo and received by the IGP office on 23.11.2023, the legislator asks for provision of security for the safety of the demonstrators.
In an interview with Kasese Guide Radio yesterday, Hon. Robert Centenary, the former Kasese Municipal Member of Parliament described as mere wishful thinking for Hon. Ferigo to lead his electorates into what they call a legal battle against the government of Uganda and peaceful demonstration over the same matter.
He advises Mr. Ferigo to be open, guide the local population accordingly and desist from political emotions that may divert the situation against the wishes of the locals.
Hon. Centenary said whereas he supports a peaceful demonstration by the local community members, Hon. Ferigo, the NRM flag bearer and an MP in the ruling government, would use the petition of the demonstrators to justify to the Speaker of Parliament, the health committee of the house and the ministry of health how deadly it would be for the government of Uganda to withdraw her medical personnel from Kilembe Mines Hospital in Kasese. Currently, the local community members were reportedly photocopying their national IDs for the legal battle as agreed in a community meeting of more than 1500 people. END
