The former Kasese Municipal Member of Parliament, Hon. Robert Centenary has called for re-planning of the popular Tamangalo area into a residential area as an initial intervention against the pending eviction of the local population from the contested pieces of land.
Recently, a High Court judgment cleared Kilembe Mines Limited as the legitimate owner of Kihalima-Kyaminyoku, Kamaiba and golf club cells in Kasese Municipality, causing fear among the occupants, most of whom have invested vastly on the said pieces of the land.
Hon. Centenary who called for calm and guided statements over the matter, said should the area be mineral free and re-planned for residential developments then, Kasese Municipal leadership would engage government that owns Kilembe Mines limited.
Hon. Centenary speaking……
He described as un called for damage and generally unfair for any decision that would see over one thousand households evicted in an area that does not have any direct negative effect to copper mining in Kilembe.
Hon. Centenary’s successor, Hon. Ferigo Kambale told his electorates to be calm as he consults his legal team about what can be done to save the situation.
Earlier in 2020 during the hot political campaigns for the Kasese Municipal Mayoral seat, the then Mayor and currently State Minister for National Guidance, Hon. Godfrey Kabyanga was asked to eat his words when he asked for a community backup to negotiate with government to release the same pieces of land he insisted belonged to Kilembe Mines Limited. END
