Ms. Ruth Masika, the town clerk for Kithoma-Kanyatsi town council in Kasese district, is concerned about the increasing number of school dropout.
According to her, preliminary statistics from the Community Development Officer, indicated 75% school drop outs 2024, a trend she believes is not accommodative to the newly created urban council.

Addressing a stakeholders meeting held yesterday at Kathoma Primary school, Ms. Ruth called for mindset change among parents and guardians who allegedly force their children into early marriages for wealth accumulation.
She revealed that the town council has passed an Ordinance to arrest parents and guardians whose children will be seen loitering on trading centers and homes as first term officially open early February.

Maate Magwara, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner for Kasese in charge of Bukonzo County, who described education as the best weapon to end Poverty, urged parents and guardians to prioritize their children education. He further called for security cautiousness and neighborhood watch among the public, most especially those living along Uganda-DRC boarder. END
