A downpour characterized by heavy hailstorms has left a trail of destruction in Luwero district.
The hailstorm destroyed over 20 houses leaving families homeless and hundreds of acres of crop gardens destroyed.
The most are Kabakedi parish in Luwero sub-county and others in Luwero town, with over 100 families were destroyed.
Ibrahim Ssetimba the LCI Chairman of Kigavu village explains that the heavy downpour started at around 6 pm evening and lasted for less than an hour.
He adds that the heavy downpours characterized by hailstorms blew off iron sheets from the houses, and others collapsed leaving families crying foul.
He adds crops that include bananas, cassava and coffee were also destroyed.
Ssetimba says that they launched fundraising campaigns to reconstruct the houses of the most vulnerable families to enable them to get shelter.  Brenda Nabukenya, the Luwero District Woman Member of Parliament rushed to the affected villages and extended financial support to the most vulnerable households to reconstruct houses and donated maize to residents to replant. Hon. She however said she is overwhelmed with families affected by hailstorms and asked the Ministry of Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees to come to their rescue. END.
