    Grow Bamboo to preserve snows on Mt. Rwenzori-Dr. Kiyonga

    The Former Ugandan Ambassador to China in Beijing, Dr. Crispas Kiyonga has urged people in Rwenzori Sub region to impress Bamboo growing aimed to preserve Snows on Mt.Rwenzori.

    Dr.Kiyonga said the move is part of the government’s effort to restore the degraded forests and increase forest cover.

    This was revealed at the launch of Rwenzori theluji Marathon festival with community biodiversity week held at Rwenzori square in Kasese town today. Dr.Kiyonga on snows….

    Kiyonga said the strategy focuses on promoting bamboo planting for livelihood development, sustainable management and utilization of bamboo, encourage bamboo growing as a sustainable resource, forest and landscape restoration; and climate change mitigation among others.

    Kasese District Chairperson Mr.Erifaz Muhindi Bukombi who said culture is demonstrated by cultural values and norms, quickly hailed the Ministry of water and environment for donating planting trees for greening Kasese as part of the marathon activities.Mr. Muhindi on culture……

    Kasese Municipal MP, Hon.Ferigo Kambale described the event as an investment strategy in promoting tourism that his electorates need to tap different business opportunities.

    Mr. Alex Masereka from Mahango emerged the first runner in 52 kilometer, while Milton Masereka  from Bwera sub-county 1st in 21 kilometer respectively both attributing their success to daily training and God’s blessings.Mr. Alex and Milton on marathon.

    A 30 year old woman and mother of three emerged the best in 52 kilometer run for women. Ms. Roset on marathon……

    The five best runners received a handshake between Five hundred to One hundred thousand shillings. The international marathon slated is 3rd. sept.2022.END.
