A one year project of testing pregnant mothers against Hepatitis B will soon commence in the districts of Kasese and Ntoroko.
The project funded by Gilaid Pharmaceuticals USA is to be implemented by Great lakes Peace centre and Alliance for Children and youth Uganda.
Speaking at the inception meeting held yesterday at Kasese district Health Board room, the Project officer “Accelerating Hepatitis B Epidemic control in Kasese and Ntoroko Districts”, Ms. Patina Masika said the project is designed on the basis that early detection, linkage and prioritization of scientifically proven intervention will lead to the elimination of Hepatitis B virus among the general population, which specifically focus of pregnant mothers.
Ms. Patina said the project design is focusing on pregnant women staying on lake shores because screening for Hepatitis B infection during pregnancy identifies women whose babies are at a risk of perinatal transmission. Ms. Patina speaking…..
