Local eaders in Kasese District have reiterated their appeal to government to upgrade Bwera General Hospital into a regional referral facility to improve access to better healthcare services.
During a stakeholders’ meeting chaired by Lt. Maate Magwara, the Kasese Deputy RDC in charge of Bukonzo County held at the hospital premises over the weekend, Mr. Clarence who highlighted a challenge of understaffing, and worn-out equipment in the theatre and structures which in some cases account for babies and mothers fatalities, notes that if the facility is upgraded to referral, all sectors would improve.

Mr. Peter Sunday Kakule, the Nyakiyumbu Sub County Chairperson said the demand for a referral is long overdue, adding that insufficiency ambulance services also account for fatalities in Kasese district.

Hon. Monday Grivazio Bwambale, the Kasese District Vice Chairperson says the leaders have over the year noted the need for Kasese to have a referral hospital on account of its growing population and topography.
Recently, the State Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Godfrey Kabyanga said discussions were ongoing regarding the elevation of the hospital to a referral than the distant Mbarara and Fort Portal Referral hospitals for specialized healthcare. END
