The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of ICT, Dr. Aminah Zawedde, has announced that starting in the next financial year, certification will be mandatory for all government employees in ICT-related positions.
This decision was made during the second Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) meeting for the UJ-Connect Project, held in Kampala in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
Dr. Zawedde emphasised that certification will be a prerequisite for individuals aspiring to be promoted to senior roles such as principal, assistant, or commissioner within the government.
She highlighted the professional nature of IT careers and the increasing demand for certified professionals in the industry.
To bridge this gap, the government plans to establish a center of excellence under the Uganda Institute of Information and Communications Technology (UICT) to offer specialized training and certification. ENDS
