The Government of Uganda has allocated over 5 billion shillings to support this year’s Uganda Martyrs Day celebrations at the Catholic, Anglican, and Muslim shrines in Namugongo.

According to official disclosures, the Catholic Church received over 2 billion, while the Anglican Church was allocated 2.280 billion.
The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council was given 294 million shillings to facilitate commemorative activities at the Muslim site.
The annual celebrations are held on June 3 at the three respective sites to honor Ugandan martyrs killed for their faith between 1885 and 1887.
This year, the Diocese of Northern Uganda is leading the Anglican Church celebrations under the theme “Imitating God’s Goodness by Doing Good”.
The Diocese of Lugazi will animate the Catholic celebrations under the theme “O Lord, Let Me See Again, I, Your Pilgrim of Hope”.
The Muslim commemorations, held later between June 6 and 11, will also include a series of social and spiritual activities.
Minister of State for Information and National Guidance, Hon. Godfrey Baluku Kabyanga, said the government’s financial contributions are part of a broader plan to improve infrastructure at Namugongo and boost faith-based tourism. END.
