Government wants private schools and
institutions to concentrate on preparing for the re-opening of schools for the
non-candidates by using this time to put in place the standards that were
recommended by the ministry of health, instead of pressurizing for reopening.
Government closed down the schools in March 2020 to prevent the spread of
COVID-19 among the over 15 million school going population.
Candidates and finalists have since been allowed to attend school to complete their education cycle.
School proprietors, Civil Society Organizations, politicians and parents have for all the time asked government on the way forward for the continuity of education in the country.
According to the Commissioner Private Schools and Institutions Edward Ssebukyu, the schools should put emphasis on their readiness than pressurizing for immediate reopening.

Meanwhile government is expected to give its stand on the school reopening for non-candidates this week as it was stated by the Prime Minister Hon Ruhakana Rugunda following the debate in parliament where legislators asked when government will be opening schools for the non-candidates. End
