Gen. Kayihura expressed eagerness to be cleared of any wrongdoing

Former Inspector General of Police, Gen. Kale Kayihura in a rare interview has expressed eagerness to be cleared of any wrongdoing.

He was responding to a passionate appeal from commander of land Forces, Lt. Gen. Kainerugaba Muhoozi for his presidential exoneration.

Gen. Kayihura, a decorated war veteran with several honors of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces and some international military institutions, has been left in the cold since he was charged in court three years ago over several offences.

Kainerugaba on Wednesday appealed to President Yoweri Museveni, who is also the Commander-In-Chief of the armed forces, to forgive and rehabilitate, Kayihura, who is living a quiet and restricted life at his farm in Kashagama, Lyantonde district.

In a short message to the President, which he posted on his Twitter page, the First Son, who is also the senior presidential advisor for special operations, said if Kayihura made mistakes, revolutionary methods should be employed to iron out the contradictions because he is an angel to me.

The 66 years old Gen. Kayihura appreciated Keinerugaba’s efforts to have him freed, adding that he was sincerely grateful for those who value him.

As he awaits a response from the Commander-in-Chief and General Court Martial, Kayihura, during the interview revealed that he is preparing to return to law practice, a profession he abandoned in 1982 in preference for the bush war struggle that brought the National Resistance Movement government in leadership.

Kayihura has a master of laws from the UK, bachelor of laws from Makerere University and a diploma in legal practice from the Law Development Centre. END
