Rogers Busiku Mulilo, the former police officer who recently joined the National Unity Platform (NUP) as its chairperson for Mbale City, has raised concerns over his safety following threats he has received.
Speaking at a press conference yesterday evening at the NUP Mbale City offices along Palisa Road, Busiku disclosed that since declaring his affiliation with NUP, he has received more than 20 threatening phone calls from unknown individuals.
The callers have allegedly told him to leave the country if he values his life.
Busiku, who served in the police force, defended his decision to join NUP, emphasizing that as a Ugandan citizen in a multi-party system, he has the right to affiliate with any party of his choice.
He stated that if he commits any crime, the government has the right to arrest and prosecute him.
In response, Rogers Taitika, the Elgon Region spokesperson, has advised Busiku to report the threats to a nearby police station instead of addressing them through the media. END.
