By Enos Masereka,
Four cattle keepers in Kasese district have been found guilty of illegally grazing their cattle in Queen Elizabeth National Park.
Charles Kagoro, Adam Kamis, Charles Mweigye, and Ali Karim appeared before Kasese Chief Magistrate Betty Ajok yesterday who fined each of them two million shillings.
They were convicted for illegally entering a protected area, unlawfully introducing domestic animals into the Wildlife Park, and disturbing wildlife and plants, in violation of the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) Act 2000.
The court heard that on November 1, 2024, a UWA staff spotted the cattle inside the protected area and confiscated them, keeping them at the Kahendero Rangers Post.
When the owners arrived to retrieve the cattle, the four were arrested and transferred to Kasese Central Police Station for further processing. END.
