Boda-boda riders in Fort Portal are raising concerns about more frequent motorcycle thefts, especially of bikes bought through loans from private companies.

They suspect that the companies loaning to them the bikes could be behind the racket that steals them when the repayment period is about to end.
Mr. Edward Rugumayo, the Chairperson of the Fort-Portal Boda-boda Riders Association, says a brand-new motorcycle costs between 5.5 to six million shillings, so most riders who cannot afford to pay cash opt for loans that hit twelve million shillings each unit before the bike is transferred to the person that acquired it if there are no penalties involved. Mr. Rugumayo speaking……..
Rugumayo said the association has so far registered 24 stolen motorcycles since the beginning of the year, out of which only 13 have been recovered. However, SP Vincent Twesige the Rwenzori West Police Spokesperson, called for more consciousness and vigilance by commercial riders against thieves he said should neutralized collectively. END
