By Kyamanduma Patrick,
Five Kasese District Councilors, most of whom recently petitioned against a committee set by the district Speaker to investigate suspected corruption in the recruitment of civil servants, have been appointed security guards, Kasese Guide Radio has learnt.
Mr. Erias Byamungu, the Kasese District Chief Administrative Officer confirmed the development, saying that Hon. Johnson Mulekeri Maate, the district councilor for Muhokya sub county, Hon. Pelucy Mweryabisandu for Kabatunda-Kirabaho town council, Hon. Asasio Bwambale for Nyakabingo sub county, Hon. Jonan Bwambale for Mbunga and Hon. Rabson Magoma for Maliba sub county, had been recruited by the Public Service Commission and were currently civil servants.
He said if resources allow, the five former councilors must be replaced now that their seats were vacant. Mr. Byamungu speaking1…..
Mr. Byamungu later asked the new recruits to be hardworking at their various locations of deployment, be loyal to government and be non-political while executing their duties. Mr. Byamungu speaking2……
Our efforts to get comments from the five outgoing district councilors ended in futile as their contacts were not available by press time.
To Hon. Johnson Mulekeri Maate who had just handed in his resignation letter, the interview by our reporter was untimely. Kasese Guide Radio is yet to establish the hidden motive for the recruitment of the five councilors as ashkaris, a job slot that looks otherwise cheaper per say compared to the positions they served as people’s representatives.
