The fishing activity at Lake Edward in Lake Katwe Sub –County Kasese district, is currently threatened by the water hyacinth that has flooded over the waters.
This follows heavy rains associated with winds that are forcing the hyacinth to float over the water and hence cause the movement of boats ineffective especially when crossing to the either side of Katunguru Bridge.
Despite the water hyacinth being important for acting as breeding places for all aquatic species, a section of fishermen at the Katunguru fishing landing site argue that the challenge has been experienced in a period of one month since the March –May rains started.
